Kruti Dev keyboard: how it works
The Kruti Dev keyboard is the Remington typewriter layout used with the Kruti Dev 010 font. The interactive keyboard below shows which Hindi character each English key types. Press a key or hold Shift to explore it, and use the chart below to learn the key positions.
How the Kruti Dev keyboard works
Kruti Dev is not phonetic. Each key on an English keyboard types a fixed Hindi shape, such as d for क and Shift + D for its half form क्. Half letters, matras and conjuncts are built from these shapes, the way they were on a Hindi typewriter.
The text you type is stored as English characters and only looks like Hindi when the Kruti Dev 010 font is applied. To get text that works everywhere, convert it to Unicode.

Kruti Dev keyboard vs InScript
InScript is the standard Unicode Hindi layout built into Windows. Its vowels sit on the left and consonants on the right. Kruti Dev follows the typewriter layout and needs the Kruti Dev font. Learn the one your exam or office requires.
How to type in Kruti Dev on your computer
- Install the Kruti Dev 010 font.
- Keep your keyboard on English. Kruti Dev does not use a Windows Hindi keyboard.
- Open Word, select Kruti Dev 010 as the font, and type using the chart.
