Hindi typing test in Mangal font: how it works
A Mangal typing test means typing Unicode Hindi, the text format that the Mangal font displays. Exams usually pair it with the InScript keyboard, so the test below starts with InScript and a 10-minute timer. Type the passage and check your speed and accuracy, or switch to Remington.
What Mangal font typing means
Mangal is a Unicode Devanagari font made by Microsoft. Unicode stores each Hindi letter as a standard character, so text typed for Mangal stays readable in any Hindi font, on any device. That is why exams that ask for Mangal typing are really asking for Unicode Hindi.
The keyboard layout is a separate choice. Mangal typing tests usually use InScript, the standard Hindi layout built into Windows. Some exams also allow Remington GAIL, a Unicode version of the typewriter layout.
Exams that use Mangal or Unicode typing
The MP CPCT publishes InScript and Remington (GAIL) layouts, and SSC CHSL has listed InScript among its Hindi options. Many state and court recruitment tests also accept Unicode Hindi. Check your notice for the layout, time and speed it requires.
How to set up Mangal typing on your computer
- Add Hindi in Windows Settings under Time & language, then choose the Hindi Traditional keyboard (InScript).
- Press Windows + Space to switch between English and Hindi.
- Type in Word and select the Mangal font. On Windows 10 and 11, install the Devanagari Supplemental Fonts feature if Mangal is missing.
