Kruti Dev 010 font

Kruti Dev 010 is a legacy Hindi font that is still common in government offices, typing institutes and some typing exams. It is not Unicode: the file stores English letters and symbols, and the font draws Hindi shapes in their place. That is why Kruti Dev text turns into English letters when the font is missing.

How to install the Kruti Dev 010 font on Windows

HindiType does not distribute Kruti Dev because its licence terms are not clearly published. If your office or exam needs it, get the file from your institution or a source you trust, and scan it before opening. Then:

  1. Extract the ZIP file if the font came in one.
  2. Right-click the .ttf file and choose Install, or Install for all users.
  3. Restart Word and choose Kruti Dev 010 from the font list.
  4. Keep your Windows keyboard on English and type using the Remington layout.

How to type in Kruti Dev

Kruti Dev uses the Remington typewriter layout. Each English key types a fixed Hindi shape, so d gives क and Shift + D gives its half form क्. You do not need the Windows Hindi keyboard. Learn the layout with the Kruti Dev keyboard chart and practise with the Kruti Dev typing test; neither needs the font installed.

Why Kruti Dev text shows English letters

A Kruti Dev document stores English characters. When the Kruti Dev 010 font is not installed, or a different font is applied, you see those characters instead of Hindi. Applying Mangal or another Unicode font does not fix it, because the stored characters are still English. Convert the text to Unicode instead.

Kruti Dev 010 vs other Kruti Dev versions

Fonts in the Kruti Dev family share a style, but numbered versions do not always use the same character mapping as Kruti Dev 010. Text made with another version may convert incorrectly with a Kruti Dev 010 converter, so check which version a document uses.

Should you still use Kruti Dev?

Use Kruti Dev only when an exam, office or printing workflow specifically requires it. Unicode Hindi works on phones, websites, search engines and every modern app, and Kruti Dev does not. Convert old Kruti Dev files to Unicode when you can.
