Tanglish to Tamil: choosing the right letters
Tanglish typing means writing Tamil sounds with Roman letters. Start with vanakkam for வணக்கம் or nandri for நன்றி. Press Space after a word, or tap a suggestion to choose its spelling.
Tamil distinguishes letters such as ல, ள and ழ. A Roman spelling may leave that distinction unclear. Review the suggestions, especially for names, doubled consonants and words containing ழ.
The result is Unicode Tamil. A font can change how the letters look, but changing the font does not convert old Bamini-encoded text into Unicode. This page accepts Roman words and produces Tamil script.
Editing and saving your text
Choose a suggestion with the up and down arrows, or tap it on a phone. Escape keeps the current word in Roman letters. On a hardware keyboard, Backspace immediately after a converted word lets you revise its Roman spelling.
The editor accepts up to 20,000 characters. Conversion runs locally after the selected language files load. Copy and TXT download preserve Unicode text, punctuation and line breaks. Check spellings before using the result in a document.
